Wahlen in Misrata

The Libyan city of Misrata, the heart of a fierce battle between pro-Gaddafi troops and Libyan rebels during the Libyan Revolution, held its first elections.

Although the Misrata elections are not the first ones to be held in Libya since the ouster of Gaddafi (the first ones being in the northwestern city of Zuwara in September, 2011), they are the first to be held in the presence of international observers, according to Mohamed Berween – the president of the High Independent Committee for the Elections of the Local Council of Misrata.
